Your information

Privacy notice

This site collects as little as possible. You can read every page without giving any personal information, and it uses no tracking or advertising cookies.

Who is responsible

Scotland’s Data Centre Map runs this site and is the data controller for anything you send through it. To ask about your information, use the Contact page.

What we collect and why

  • Contact form: your message, and your name and reply details only if you choose to give them. Used to read and answer your message.
  • Report incorrect data: the scheme, what is wrong, and any correction or source link you add. Used to check and correct the site. It asks for no personal details; please don't include any.
  • Nothing else. The site has no accounts, analytics, advertising or social media trackers.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering messages and keeping the tracker accurate, or your consent where you choose to give contact details.

Where it is kept and for how long

Form submissions are received and stored by Netlify, which hosts the site, and are emailed to the site owner. Netlify may process data outside the UK under its data processing terms with standard contractual safeguards. Submissions are deleted within 12 months unless they are needed for an ongoing correction or conversation. We never sell or share your information, and we never publish it.

Cookies and storage

The site sets no cookies. It remembers two display choices in your own browser (the map view and which map layers are switched on) so they stay as you left them. That information never leaves your device and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

Like any website, the host's servers see your device's IP address when they send you a page; Netlify uses this to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. Links to council portals, news sites and petitions take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete anything you have sent us, or object to how we use it, through the Contact page. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
